Location: Redwood City, California
Size: ~ 110,000 sft., 3- Story, 2-levels basement garages
SSA participated in the design contest for a new 3-story office building in the industrial/ residential district of Redwood City.
In our design, a large entry feature comprising of a board form concrete wall and angled glass invites the people into the building. An interior walkway opens behind the entry into an amenity area that acts as a collaborative/ common lounge space. The other side of the walkway houses a green screen/ mural wall to create a buffer between the existing open water channel and a future city park.
The angled volume glass at the street side façade exaggerates the height of the building creating an interesting mass play.
Insulated precast concrete wall anchors the building on the long railroad side façade creating sound insulation inside the building. This wall also supports the expansive glass facades on the other three sides. Dark glass frames, wood roof and soffit undersides, wood feature wall and corrugated metal panels define the industrial character of the building that aligns with the neighborhood use.
